STITCH SKETCH: Agave
STITCH SKETCH: Agave
Agave
Chainstitch Embroidery on Fresh Water Textile Linen
18” x 18”
A true icon of West Texas, the Agave shoots up their magnificent blooming stalks as a triumphant death rattle. In this way they are most brilliant and powerful in their last breath; a beautiful way to go out. In this stitch sketch, though, I was focused more on the leaves of the agave than the showy stalk. There is something endlessly compelling about the gently folded silver-sage leaf of an Agave plant. I simply can’t stop staring when I see one, the drastic lighting draws me in forever. This is what I was attempting to capture in this stitch sketch.
This is meant to be part of an ongoing series in which I release a small chainstitched wall hanging every Monday. They are sketches of ideas, meditations on concepts, beginnings of paths. Some will turn into bigger pieces, maybe even series, but this is a platform for me to experiment with new ideas.
Also how dreamy is this Fresh Water Textile Linen??
Thanks y’all. :)
