The Manitou Islands in Lake Michigan are known as shapeshifters in these parts. They have different personalities every day. Sometimes they are dark and mysterious, sometimes bright and inviting. But more than that, they also seem to change position, even shapes sometimes! They can seem very far away one day and the next you could imagine swimming to them. They are sometimes touching, sometimes far from each other. My favorite phenomenon is when they appear to be floating above the water. Sometimes the horizon disappears altogether and then they are floating midair, which is the look I was going for in this piece.
