STITCH SKETCH: Bluebonnet
STITCH SKETCH: Bluebonnet
Bluebonnet
Chainstitch Embroidery on Fresh Water Textile Linen
18” x 18”
Well, it had to happen, right? I am surrounded by these beauties in central Texas right now. I have had so much fun studying them on my walks around town. One of my favorite parts of this stitch sketch series is the distillation and reduction that needs to happen in my brain to turn these plants into chainstitched pieces. I took photos of bluebonnets on a walk recently, and found myself zooming in to study them when I sat down to stitch. Pretty quickly I realized that was the opposite of what I needed to do, and instead placed my phone across the room to look at them from afar. What is their movement? What is their color? What is their mood? I have a feeling this won’t be the last I stitch of the bluebonnet!
This is meant to be part of an ongoing series in which I release a couple of small chainstitched wall hanging every week. They are sketches of ideas, meditations on concepts, beginnings of paths. Some will turn into bigger pieces, maybe even series, but this is a platform for me to experiment with new ideas.
Also how dreamy is this Fresh Water Textile Linen??
Thanks y’all. :)
