Petoskey Stones are fossilized coral found on the shores of Lake Michigan in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Like many Michiganders, the Petoskey Stone claimed my heart when I was a small child, searching for them in the shallows of the Lake. The more I’ve learned about them, the more I love them. Trying to capture them in linocut was much harder than I anticipated and took me many tries. They are surprisingly complex in their geometry and repeating patterns. After multiple failed attempts, I am finally happy with this rendition, and it’s one of the larger prints I’ve done.
