There is hardly a scene more iconic in Big Bend than the view into Santa Elena canyon. This time while visiting I was struck by the many lifeforms emerging straight from the rock. Prickly pear, sotol, and ocotillo hang off the sides of the canyon walls, seemingly attached to nothing, and I love the contrast between the stark bare rock and the green desert life.
