Acrylic and Chainstitch Embroidery on stretched canvas

36”x24”

I am fortunate enough to have some chicory that grows by my house, and I was fully captured by it last summer. Some of it grew to tower over my head, its blue flowers pale and brilliant at once. A friend and I were talking about the wonders of the plant recently. A weed for some and a delicacy for others, it grows in “disturbed” areas, a true survivor.

I am enjoying these dusty rose rust skies lately. They invoke the dusk, but also the smoky skies we’ve been seeing lately. The chicory, being the survivor it is, stands boldly blue against it.
