Chainstitch Embroidery on Dyed Heavy Linen

This is the yarrow of my dreams: a portal to the universe, a window into space and time itself. I am fully captured by each bloom of the plant, differing slightly from the one next to it, face looking up to the heavens.

I’ve had this yarrow in my head and dreams for a while now and I am so happy to have finally had the chance to express it through chainstitching. I do believe that one of my jobs as an artist is to honor these magic plants as best I can. I hope to portray them as noble creatures, full of insight and power.

The fabric I used here is actually a linen upholstery fabric sourced from a local store in Traverse City, Fresh Water Textiles. It is naturally dyed and is one of my very favorite pieces I’ve bought from them, and this yarrow is the last piece of it I have. Fresh Water Textiles has now rebranded as Eelo and is no longer selling fabrics like these, so until I can find another source of these gorgeous and sturdy pieces, this is the last of it!
